Adoption Pending Meet Sawyer A shelter is no place for a puppy to grow up, but that's exactly what's happening to Sawyer. Sawyer came in as a three month old puppy when he and his brothers were owner surrendered to us on October 13, 2018. Sawyer is now nearly eight months old. Day-after-day his puppyhood slips away as night-after-night Sawyer tucks himself in knowing that he's still unloved and unwanted. Watching his brothers leave with their forever families has broken Sawyer's heart, but he gamely soldiers on with the hopes that his day will soon come. We're not sure why Sawyer is still with us. He's absolutely one of the cutest puppies we've seen. He's sweet, smart and affectionate. Sawyer loves being with people and kids and he plays with joyful abandon so excited to be outside and to have people to run around with. When he first gets outside he can get a little excited to be released from his kennel, but he quickly settles down and loves nothing better than to chase a ball or stand for a good back scratch. Sawyer is all in. It's so much fun to watch how much fun Sawyer has outside. Sawyer is thought to be a lab/terrier mix. He weighs about 35 pounds. Like his mother, it seems he'll be on the smaller medium size. His coat is a beautiful cream color and his eyes express his every emotion, most of which shows his love for people. Sawyer walks well on a leash, but the further he gets away from his kennel the more timid he becomes. Given that he's really only known the kennel, it's no wonder that life outside seems scary. A trainer and volunteers are working with Sawyer to build his confidence and every day he gets a little braver. Sawyer plays well with other dogs. We haven't tested him with cats, but will do so for potential adopters. Sawyer is neutered and current on age appropriate vaccinations. Sawyer is one terrific dog that seems to bring out the best in people. He would love nothing better than to be in a home filled with lots of love and activity. Sawyer is incredibly loyal and he showers the volunteers that play with him in kisses and tail wags. If you're looking for an incredible young dog to make part of your family come meet our Sawyer. He's sure to charm you like he has us. Call 706-865-4135 for information on additional health services provided as part of the adoption fee. If interested in one of our puppies or dogs, please submit an application online or at the shelter. Applications can be submitted online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dogadoptionapplication Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
