MEET ROCKY! He is 10 years old and weighs a very chubby 15.9 bs. Rocky is being fostered in Dunedin, FL. UPDATED BIO 12/10/2018: Our sweet, albeit pudgy, *little* Rocky was rescued by United Yorkie Rescue on October 15. He was just hours away from euthanasia when rescued, but we are happy to say that he is now doing well in his foster home. Rocky initially saw the vet the day after he was rescued. It was confirmed then that he has a severe collapsing trachea, as well as being very obese at 19 lbs. We are trying different medications to obtain the best results possible, and we seem to be on the right track at this point. To help him lose weight, our sweet little boy is on a very strict diet. By the way, this does not make Rocky a happy boy, but as he loses weight, he will feel so much better and it will all be worth it! The good news is that he is steadily losing weight and is now down to 15.9 lbs. Rocky had a follow up visit with his vet on December 7th and blood work was done to determine if he may have a problem with his thyroid - results will be posted when they are in. If he does have a thyroid issue, it could be attributing to his obesity, which ultimately can further complicate his collapsing trachea. Currently, the only time Rocky seems to have coughing and breathing issues with his trachea, is when he gets excited (like going to the vet). Luckily, Rocky is a very mellow guy, so it's not as much of a problem for him as it would be for a muyh more rambunctious and feisty dog. At this time, Rocky is not ready to be adopted, but we are hoping he will be ready very soon. We are currently accepting applications and will review them when he is ready to go to his furever home. United Yorkie Rescue has stepped up to the plate to rescue a very sick dog in need once again because no other rescue group was able to help. Rocky's medical expenses are expected to be high, and we couldn't help dogs like him without the help of our amazing donors. If you find it in your heart to donate to this sweet boy's medical expenses, please visit his bio page at unitedyorkierescue.org, scroll down until you find his page, and donate by clicking on the paypal donation link. Remember, every donation counts and without your donations, we would not be able to continue to rescue deserving dogs like Rocky. UPDATED BIO 10/22/2018: Sweet Rocky is our Team's newest bachelor in Florida! It took a huge team effort to rescue Rocky from a South Florida shelter and transported to his foster home, but this little boy really needed help - and needed it urgently. Rocky was immediately taken to the vet where he was diagnosed with a severe case of collapsed trachea. This condition causes him to cough and pant a lot. He presented with very labored breathing and was panting non-stop, which caused him to be anxious and distressed. He is now on the appropriate mix of medications and is already doing so much better. Rocky is also very overweight, weighing in at a whopping 19 lbs., but his dogtor has put him on a prescription weight management food. Once he is stabilized, he will also be able to go for short walks to help him lose his weight. Rocky's ideal weight should be a healthier 13 to 14 lbs. and shedding this excess weight will also benefit his collapsed trachea. Rocky is a very sweet little boy who gets along well with both dogs and cats, but prefers to be with his foster mom. It's still too early to know much about his personality because of his continuous breathing difficulty and extreme thirst (one of his meds makes him very thirsty), so stay tuned for more information and to keep up with his Rocky's progress.
