About Lady

Adoption Fee: $25
Dachshund mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Precious, sweet dog that we will allow to be adopted ONLY by a very loving home. We are moving in (across country) with aging parents (88) and they cannot have another dog in their home. Lady's first owners apparently abandoned her in a field and my husband rescued her when she was about 1.5 years old. She is initially timid around people (takes time to trust), but once trust is established, she wants to love and be loved. The right home is one that will not yell at her or hit her and will give her plenty of gentle petting, belly rubs, and sweet, loving attention. She seems to be less shy with children and women. When my husband adopted her, there were two other larger female dogs in the home. Currently, there is only a female German shepherd and they both have a great time with each other, and sometimes can be found sleeping in the same bed. She is still getting the hang of a leash (doesn't relish the idea of wearing a leash), but once we get the harness leash on and the other dog walks ahead of her, she will walk with us. So, more leash training is needed (we just recently started to do this). If there is someone who knows how to gently train a dog, that would be perfect. She has a doggie bed (several) that she sleeps in, but she also likes to hang out on the couch or on the bed. If she gets scared, her safe place is under the bed or under the kitchen table. She has been very safe and loved with us, so it is taking her less time to adjust to other people being around. She loves to romp in the backyard and is ecstatic when Daddy comes home and takes her out to play. She has access to a doggie door into the garage, so if we are gone and she is left outside, she can retreat to the garage and sleep on a super cozy dog bed. We hate that we have to leave our sweet doggie behind, especially since she had an apparently abusive start in life. So, that's why we need to find her a home that is full of sweet people who will spend time with her and love on her regularly throughout the day. We need to find her a home by Thanksgiving. Preferably, we'd like someone who is nearby Bartlesville, OK. She is not used to traveling in a car (her only trips with us have been to the vet).
