About Pooka

Whenever a sweet Poodle or Bichon mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of these breed mixes are generally very loving and intelligent. They also fit well into a family.. making great companions and the ultimate house dogs. Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them in a home with a loving family and frequent socialization...and they will shine. Pooka is just about 8 years old (such a great age - young enough to be a blank slate soaking up new skills while being mature enough to have left her puppyish ways behind). Pooka weighs just about 18 lbs (but could stand to lose a few pounds through exercise and premium nutrition)....a perfect size for hiking, neighborhood walks and backyard fun... and then at day's end Pooka will love nothing more then to gently cuddle next to you on the couch (or bed) and express her love with her loyalty and sweetness. Pooka's rescuer had the following to say about sweet Pooka: I was the lucky one that fostered Pooka and loved her up prior to her journey to Farfels Rescue. Let me start off by saying she is a doll! She is such a loving and sweet cuddle bug! Pooka was extremely gentle and sweet with my 2 kids..11 and 14. I feel that older kids are far better for Pooka...softer voices and far less craziness. I have 3 personal small dogs and one kittie... Pooka did great with them as well. She loved to curl up with our family on the couch to watch movies or just to snuggle. Pooka slept in our bed and had no issues at all. She actually slept like a log all night!. I will cry like a baby when Pooka leaves my home but I know that she will be in good hands with Farfel's! Pooka has inherited the superior intelligence of the Poodle breeds along with the cuddly sweetness of the Bichon.. If Pooka is trained with positive reinforcement, given tons of love, socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs...she will continue her growth into a self-confident girl who will be a wonderful companion. She has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a strong desire to please. We'd like to place Pooka in a home with either active retirees or a younger family with dog-crazy older kids who love spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member. Pooka will shine for a family who truly loves her and enjoys spending time together. Kindness,love and a safe and secure environment will bring out all the wonderful qualities and loyalty that live inside this adorable and scruffy-cute Poodle/Bichon mix. Pooka will love long walks, backyard fun, window-shopping on Pearl Street to fine-tune her urban skills and being a very present companion to her family all through the day. With feelings of security within the family, Ellie will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will always return. Pooka is a Poodle/Bichon mix... these beautiful mixes are considered to be among the most hypoallergenic breeds available today. She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is a great choice for longevity as well as coat care) to keep her scruffy coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free.
