About KONA

NOT A GOOD APARTMENT DOG he is a talker. KONA is approx. 4 yr old 50# shepherd/husky mix, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped, owner surrender. They were no longer able to take care of him, as he was just outside tied to his dog house. He must have had some training in his past as he seems to know some commands. He loves to be with his people. We are working with him on his SEVERE SEPARATION ANXIETY. We will do our best to help a new owner pick up where we leave off in dealing with this, but it will take time and patience. YOU WILL FIND THAT HE IS WORTH THE TIME AND INVESTMENT. He would really like someone home during the day, until he gets comfortable in his environment. I expect this will take several months. When he's crated while you're gone is when his anxiety shows. He will chew his bed, cushion, etc. We are working with him to get comfortable with his crate when foster mom is gone. It is a challenge but we are making baby steps of progress. When he came to us he was underweight, so we are working on getting him to his proper weight. He has a loving, sweet personality and is not hyper. As long as he is near his people, he is happy. Belly rubs are definitely something he likes and he easily rolls over for them. He walks pretty well on a leash. He has been good around the young toddlers that have visited, but we still recommend to ALWAYS monitor dogs and children together and never be left alone. Normally we don't take in dogs outside our specific breed but he was too thin and in need of TLC for us to turn him away. And someone volunteered to foster him until we found him a home.
