Dieter is a 4 year old, 90 pound Rottweiler who doesn't know he isn't a lap dog. Many of the Rottweiler breed characteristics fit Dieter. He is intelligent, powerful and eager to please. When you look into Dieter's warm brown eyes you can see there is a story behind his expression. We wish he could tell us about his past. We suspect Dieter was not treated kindly or ignored by people and probably spent the first years of his life on a chain. In March, Dieter ended up in an overcrowded shelter. He failed his heartworm test and the shelter did nothing to help him. He was anxious and scared in the shelter environment so they drugged him for the entire four months he was there. He lost 11 pounds in 4 months at the shelter. When Dieter arrived at his foster home he looked pretty defeated. In just a few days he discovered people paid attention to him, gave him enough food to eat, talked to him nicely and gave him treats and toys. Dieter loves toys! The first time he saw a couch we don't think he knew what is was. It didn't take him long to discover the joys of being held and cuddled. Dieter has no clue he doesn't fit in your lap, he just wants to be held and loved. Dieter has now been though heartworm treatment following the American Heartworm Society's protocol and is ready to find his forever home with people who understand dogs are family. He missed out on all his basic training as a puppy. Dieter is still learning how to walk nicely on a leash and not to jump up and hug you when he is excited. He needs a family committed to continue his training. Dieter would like a home with no young children, an experienced human, and a fenced yard so he can run and play safely. Dieter is friendly with other dogs but very possessive of his toys. Because of that we think he would do best as the only dog in his home. Dieter is house trained, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.
