About Krista & Vance

Adoption Fee: $700
Chihuahua / Norfolk Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Update from foster home: Krista (the one who looks more like a terrier) is inquisitive and active. She will play outside for hours, loves chews for dogs five times her size, and needs continued work walking on a leash, but she's seven pounds and easy to control. She likes to make herself at home on you wherever you sit. Her coat is a little coarse, but when trimmed, it's much softer. Vance is eight or nine pounds. He is mellow and calm all the time, and lives to be on your lap. He's got a nice soft coat, and is incredibly good on a leash. If not on your lap, he is happiest snuggled under a warm blanket. Overall they're are pretty polite, and have learned to (mostly) sit for treats. They were not housebroken when they arrived; we have very few accidents any longer but they're still not 100% reliable and are crate trained. They will need continued work on potty training. They are initially nervous with strangers, and bark at visitors, but they quickly make friends with everyone. They prefer having their humans home, will cry a bit when you leave, but they do settle down, especially if left in their crate. They vocally greet you when you come home. At night they spend they sleep in a crate with no problem. When getting ready for walks they can get overly excited and it can be tricky to get a harness or collar on them. All in all, they're great little dogs, loving and friendly. They will make whoever picks them very happy. It's always so sad when you see a bonded pair at a kill shelter because the worry of them being separated. They were quite thin & very skittish at first & not trusting, but we were not leaving them there. We got Krista & Vance out of the shelter & they will be going to their new forever home together so they won't have to worry about being separated ever again. We got this sweet bonded pair to our vets in CA & bought them back to WA where they were seen by our wonderful vets & got further care & we also tested them for socialization in our doggy daycare. Vance & Krista were moved to a loving foster home where they have flourished & currently reside & await their new forever home. Vance and Krista's foster family said they are definitely a bonded pair. Vance is the smooth coated black male, Krista is the wire hair or terrier mix. They might be littermates, but we are not sure. They arrived from California and were very nervous and skittish, but after a couple of days at their foster home they started to relax and show their true colors. These babies are super sweet little cuddlers who snuggle together whenever your lap is not available. They are playful, friendly, and happy to be in the pack. They have a tinge of separation anxiety, barking when their foster parents leave home, but they recover quickly and settle down. They are mostly housebroken; the bit of excitement piddle that happens will hopefully go away as they gain confidence in their new home, but we would never say our rescues are house trained. They sleep well through the night in a crate, though in a home that allows it they'd prefer to sleep in the bed. They are very comfortable with other dogs, large and small, not sure about cats or children. They are generally wary of strangers and visitors, but this is expected to improve as they become comfortable in their new home. The wonderful foster home is still working on fattening up Vance & Krista as they were so extremely thin when we pulled them from the shelter. Vance is 3 years old, he is neutered, chipped, up to date on his shots & heart worm negative. Krista is also 3 years old, just over roughly 6 lbs & is spayed, had a dental & had a baby tooth removed, she is chipped, up to date on her shots & heart worm negative. Vance & Krista have not been around cats since being in the rescue but it's always up to the new family to be responsible with their animals together & we have not had them around small children so this would be up to the new family to be responsible with. We do not know for sure what breed Vance & Krista are as it's always up to the new potential family to look at the pictures & decide what they think their breeds are. As with all of our rescues & Vance & Krista's friends they will need work on potty training & training, so this should be something the new family would be willing to work on & commit to. Please do not submit an application if you are not willing to commit to one of our rescues care for their whole life & that
