About Sailor-PENDING!

Our sweet and beautiful Sailor couldn't be more loving no matter how hard he tried. Sailor is a gorgeous Shih Tzu/Poodle mix with the sweetest personality and a positive energy that draws people to his side...and the cutest underbite you've ever seen..guaranteed!. He was absolutely the shelter favorite...and that means he always had a warm spot in the shelter office and many loving admirers that told him daily how wonderful and special he is. At 4.5 years old, Sailor is learning about the world in a positive way. He's a blank slate that is soaking up the kind words and soft touches that he's experiencing for the first time. At 18 lbs, Sailor is the perfect size to be a cuddly lap dog...and when it's walk or play time, he's ready for backyard fun or a long hike with a wagging tail and a huge smile across his beautiful face. We have so much to learn from the resilience of dogs. While Sailor has had challenging experiences in this world, he is now safe and sound��%BD'��%BD|never to be cold or hungry again. But with it all��%BD'��%BD|Sailor doesn't hold a grudge and desires only to be the best companion possible. Since he's young, Sailor is open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect. Group training classes with his family and a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Sailor and his people (as it does all dogs). Together they will learn the skills to have Sailor be a dog that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. While Sailor is 100% healthy, he does have Lenticular sclerosis...the medical term for a bluish transparent 'haze' that develops in the lens of the eye in middle-aged to senior dogs. This is considered a normal change in the lens associated with aging. In Sailor's other eye, it appears that there was trauma caused to the eye by an unknown force. Farfel's Rescue is happy to cover the cost of an eye exam if one of our rescue vets is used. Sailor is a fun-loving guy who looks ahead to a wonderful future of adventures with his forever family. Somehow Sailor came out of the shelter with high self-esteem. He's a well-adjusted guy who seems to fit in no matter where he lands. Sailor's eyes widen a bit as he takes in the new sights and sounds of his foster home while he waits for his transport to Denver...with love (hugs and kisses are awesome), respect and of course some great treats, Sailor is on his way to his foster mom's lap for some serious loving! Sailor is a guy that loves to come along.....be it to a dog-friendly workplace, on vacation or just socializing��%BD'��%BD|Sailor would love to be there as a best friend. He has such a pleasant personality and, at 18 lbs, is very portable and low-maintenance. At home, Sailor would be fine with sharing his family with other dogs. As long as they're gentle and very respectful of his smaller size...he enjoys the time together both playing outside and snoozing side by side in the sunshine. We envision Sailor in a home that will provide him with exercise and mental stimulation��%BD'��%BD|other dogs help that effort with serious play and socialization. Sailor would be overjoyed with long hikes through the beautiful Colorado mountains or social walks around the neighborhood. He's the perfect size to come along and would thoroughly enjoy his time together with his favorite people. Sailor wouldn't be content spending long hours alone��%BD'��%BD|he's far too people-oriented to be happy with that lifestyle. A retired couple or individual or a person who works from home or part-time would be great. Sailor would love the companionship and security of these consistent relationships. Being just a young guy, he'd also learn that he's loved and cared for��%BD'��%BD|a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. There are many, many Shih Tzu and Poodle lovers in the dog world...they're considered to be two of the most desirable breeds available today.This is due to their consistently great temperaments and super- intelligence.There's also no question that they're strikingly beautiful with stunning non-shedding coats and soft, expressive eyes filled with so much wisdom. Farfel's has requested that Sailor be neutered prior to his arrival in Colorado. Since this area of Texas has very few vets and far too many dogs, this may not be possible. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Sailor's neuter and microchip after his arrival in Colorado if one of our rescue vets is used.
