About Charlie

YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK (or in this case, a dog) BY ITS COVER! Charlie attended an adoption event and did absolutely phenomenal! He was so happy to meet people and did great with every single dog he met! Charlie was clearly ecstatic to be receiving so much attention! A little white fluffy dog even pounced all over Charlie's head and bit his ears before its owner could get it under control, but Charlie kept wagging his tail and didn't seem to mind! We are very encouraged by Charlie's great behavior, because being a pitbull is a turn off for some people. Sadly, we noticed a few people in the store that made it a point to walk way around Charlie, and they did not offer him love and affection like they did our other dogs attending the event. Those people don't know what they missed out on, because Charlie has the biggest heart ever! The event-goers that did give Charlie some loving, were rewarded with his wagging tail and kisses. Charlie is about 50 pounds and is estimated to be between two and three years old. He is current on vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and unfortunately heartworm positive. We will be covering the cost of Charlie's heartworm treatment! He can be adopted before his treatment is complete, as long as his adopter agrees under our contract to make Charlie available for one of our volunteers to take him for his appointments, if his adopter is unable to transport him for them. Charlie had a 'ruff road' before coming to us, as he spent over two months in the shelter and we feel he has only been an outside dog, never knowing the luxury of living inside a loving home. Charlie still has some scarring from fly strike, which is beginning to clear up gradually, but it doesn't seem to bother Charlie one bit! Surely there is someone out there that would make him a part of their family, welcome him into their cozy home, and love Charlie as much as we do! We are unsure how Charlie would do in a home with cats, but he did great with all the children he met today! He enjoys car rides! Charlie is being fostered in Portsmouth.
