About Rose

Adoption Fee: $25
Mountain Cur
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Rose is a purebred Mountain Cur who still has her puppy papers. I rescued her from a situation where her owner left her outside in a crate during all weather even very hot or stormy weather, he said he went home every 2 hrs to move her crate to a shaded area. She was in the crate because she is a fence jumper and he could not keep her in his back yard and did not want her in his house. He also attempted to have a vet put her to sleep even though she is healthy and young. I have been working with her at my house and she is potty pad trained and we are working on going outside when on walks. She is very timid and fearful of storms, loud noises, etc. She does not know the basic commands of sit, stay, or lay but she will walk on the leash and appears to understand the command heel. Due to her lack of human contact she can become protective of her crate, food, or a toy she has in her crate, she will bark at the person or dog trying to get near the crate or take the toy away. She has gotten better with her food issue and we are working on getting her to understand its okay if we take a toy away from her when she is in the crate. Outside of the crate she has no issues with you taking a toy a way and she lives in a house right now with one small dog and one large dog as well as cats. The smaller dog is her playmate and they play well together, she doesn't bother the larger dog who is an older spayed Golden Retriever. She does tend to track the cats and will bay when she thinks she has them cornered or treed in her mind. I would not recommend her for a house with cats although she has not harmed any of the cats that she is currently living with. I would not recommend her for a family with children due to her wanting to be crate and toy in crate protective(essentially she views the crate as her space and does not want to share with anyone human or animal). If the family has a teenager or older then she would be fine. She really needs someone who can help her with her issues and learn to trust humans and be comfortable around them instead of fearful. She also needs a family that is very active who can take her on lots of walks, hikes, etc. I believe several of her habits like chewing up items or tearing up toys would be eliminated if she were given the proper amount of exercise and a job for a dog of her breed as they are high energy dogs who need something to keep them busy. I am unable to give her access to large amounts of exercise due to my day to day hectic life. I feel she would be great on a farm where she could run as much as she wanted and learn jobs and training to help her stay active and not have an energy overload which leads to destructive behaviors like chewing up things like toys and other items. She shows a natural tendency to track squirrels and appears to be a very promising scent hound which would go along with what her breed was bred to do. I really need to find her a foster or new home as soon as possible before her behaviors get worse.
