About Kirby

Meet Kirby Kirby is the most precious of dogs. With a beautiful reddish coat, friendly eyes and the cutest of big ears, Kirby can only be described as TOO CUTE! Kirby looks to be a French Bulldog/Corgi/terrier mix and is about 1.5 years old. Kirby was found wandering all alone on a country highway when she was picked up by Animal Control. With no one looking for her and her time running out at AC, Kirby arrived at our shelter on October 6, 2018. Kirby is terrified of being in a shelter, but she quickly warms up to volunteers and staff. Once she knows you mean her no harm she crawls into your lap giving you a big grin and a tail wag, unless of course you want to take her for a walk and then she's all in. She walks well on a leash. Kirby is cat friendly and was hanging with the office cats when we took her pictures. We're waiting for her to settle in before we test her with other dogs. It appears that she's fine with other dogs, but we'll make sure and test her before she's adopted. Kirby has only shown a sweet and sunny disposition despite the hard life she's led. Unfortunately, with no one to care for her, she's tested positive for heartworms. Heartworms are treatable and she's starting treatments. During treatment she'll need to remain calm, which for Kirby is no big deal. She's a calm dog who loves just hanging out. If you're looking for the sweetest, coolest dog then you need to meet our Kirby. She is absolutely too cute! All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet, a call to landlord if renting and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. Those who are not in a nearby community will have a virtual home visit. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. We're closed Mondays.
