Taco came from a shelter 6 months ago. He was very anxious when he first came to live with us and could not be left alone. He is not crate trained but he is house trained. He is no longer anxious but moving into a new environment could change that. I have no doubt that he would adjust quickly again with enough love and attention. He is very sweet, affectionate and exuberantly friendly with people and dogs. His favorite games are fetch and tug of war. He learns quickly. He knows the commands sit, stay, and come. Stay and Come still need work but he's come a long way in 6 months. His favorite snacks are liver treats, hot dogs and cheese. The two reasons we need to re-home him are that while the shelter told us he was good with cats, he is not, and our cat has secluded herself in our basement laundry room and is miserable. When they do meet, Taco barks and chases her. We have been working on this behavior but I'm not sure it's possible given the high prey drive of the breed. The second reason is we underestimated the effect his size would have on our family. Our house is small and he doesn't always have enough room to roam. We also have young children whose rambunctiousness can really rile him up in the evening. We love him so much but I think he would be happiest in a house with no cats, and older children or no children. I do get the feeling that he is lonely for the company of other dogs also.
