Black Mouth Cur / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult

Active Family Alert! Like to hike...Duke is your boy! Like to run...Duke is your boy! Like to play ball...Duke is your boy! Duke is about 55lbs, 2ish years old, clean bill of health from vet, fully vaccinated, micro chipped, and neutered. He is on Heartgard and will come with a 5 month supply, x-large kennel, leash/collar, bowls, toys, etc. Duke is great with kids and other dogs. He is very high energy and definitely needs room to run and needs at least a 6ft fence. He jumps his 3-ft aluminum fence with ease. He needs an active home and someone that can take him for walks, hikes, runs and lots of play time in the yard. He has done well with his 2 and 4 year old human siblings, but older kids may be better for him as they could help with exercising him. He's great on a leash and knows basic commands. He loves to be loved and is a great snuggler. He will crawl in bed and sleep right next to you if allowed. He acts like someone may have roughed him up at some point. so he needs a calm and confident person to work with him. He has a lot of old scars as well, so who knows what his past was like. He is not aggressive, but protective, and will guard the home and the people inside from strangers. Once properly introduced and he sees the person isn't a threat, he welcomes them in and is just fine. Outside of the home, he is a big love and is very approachable by all. Duke is NOT food aggressive and you can take his food while eating, remove toys from his mouth, etc. He is a food snatcher though and always hungry. Duke does NOT like lawn mowers and will bark at them. Not sure why. However, thunderstorms and fireworks don't seem to phase him a bit. He has no problem going potty in the rain. Haha Duke is great with other dogs and is not an alpha. No idea about cats, but probably not a great idea. He is great with kids of all ages. He is a little wary of men and may bark/growl (especially with hat and sunglasses on) but if you stand your ground allow him to come to you, he does MUCH better and acclimates. Duke does well with a soft voice and hand and Doesn't respond well to harsh or over corrections. He deserves patience and kindness. He is house trained and crate trained. He does very well in his crate and will go in willingly if told to 'kennel up'. He is only crated when No one is home. He has free roam when anyone is home and during the night. Will bark at unknown things from time to time, like any dog, but is not a constant barker.
