About Sweetie

Adoption Fee: $99
American Staffordshire Terrier / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

I found Sweetie on Highway 290 two years ago. She had mange, parasitic infections, was heartworm positive, hit by a car, limping, and was underweight. I took her in and carefully took care of each of her medical issues and nursed her back to health, carefully using my limited income to provide for her complex needs including surgery and heartworm treatment. It has been a joy seeing her change from a sad, shy, sick stray to a happy, healthy little girl. Sweetie intensely loves her family and always wants to be around us. If we're sitting at the table or computer its common to find a little head butting against our elbow for a head scratch. Sweetie's personality is low maintenance and she prefers lounging all day on her bed. She also loves children of all ages and gets so excited to make friends her own height. Sweetie's favorite thing in the whole world is to go for a walk and when she hears the jiggle of her leash her inner-puppy comes out! So she can be as active or as laid back as her family is. Sweetie is great with the vet and has an A+ with getting shots. Sweetie is housetrained and has never had an accident inside. She only knows basic commands such as sit and come, but she's very food motivated so that will help with any future training. Although Sweetie adores people of all ages she is animal aggressive so she needs to go to a home where she is the only fur-baby. She walks well on leash but gets animated when she sees other animals so we walk her on neighborhood paths with less traffic. Sweetie has environmental allergies. She receives the CADI (cytopoint) injection once every 2-3 months for treatment. Although she enjoys a good lie in the grass her backyard use is limited to bathroom breaks to help with allergies. Her allergies also make her prone to Staph infections so she is bathed with inexpensive Chlorhexidine-based shampoo once/week and we use the same medication for hotspots throughout the week. Because of my health issues, I have to find a new home for Sweetie. If it weren't for this, I would never give this little one up. Sweetie is very loved and deserves a family who will love her to the depth that we do. Because knowing Sweetie, she will love her new family to the moon and back.
