About Gideon

Gideon is a 3.5 year old Catahoula/hound mix that we adopted in January 2015 at 4months old. He weighs roughly 55lbs and is a beautiful blend of black, brown, and white fur - he does shed. He is up to date on all shots as well as being neutered. He knows basic commands such as sit, stay, lay down, etc. but would greatly benefit from formal training and an owner that is committed to working with him on this. He doesn't have the best manners and tends to jump on guests out of enthusiasm! Gideon loves to chase his tail, run laps in the back yard, play tug-of-war, and chew on his kong. He thrives off social interaction and gets anxious when you aren't around, so expect to join him during bathroom breaks vs. letting him out in the backyard. He would do best in home with a fenced in yard because he LOVES to run. If you are fond of your grass, Gideon is not the dog for you - we have a brown ring in our yard when he has run his laps :) Gideon would do best in a home without younger children (under 12). He has a bit of aggression and doesn't like when his food bowl is played with while eating, toys are taken away, or is bothered when trying to sleep. He is also a very strong but affectionate player and cuddler, and isn't the best with spacial awareness. He tends to knock little humans over frequently and easily, so older kids and adults who could handle his affection is necessary. We are unsure of how he would do with cats or other small animals as he's never been around them, and though he doesn't spend much time with other dogs when he does it seems to go well. To sum it up, Gideon would do best in a home: - with children 12 years old or older - OR an active individual or couple that could provide the energetic outlets he needs. - where the owner(s) are available during the day to play and exercise him, or are willing to hire a walker/daytime caregiver - that can offer him patience and training - with a fenced in yard.
