About Hank

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

FHANK NEEDS A HOME OR FOSTER ASAP! Hank is an Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) stray we picked up on 9/23/18 in Bastrop County. He was intact and injured so we took him to the vet. He is now neutered, heartworm negative, almost done with antibiotics for some deep puncture wounds, up to date with shots and microchipped- ready to register in your name! We got hind end x-rays to assess some swelling and a limp and found that he has an old injury that required surgical repair. He has some pins and screws holding his right hind leg into his pelvis as the ball joint is missing. The vet estimates the surgery to be 3 years old and Hank is estimated to be between 3-5 years old. Hank is a high energy dog that needs an active owner. He is very smart and learns quickly but hasn't been taught very much. He appears to be potty trained and hasn't had an accident in the house or in his crate. Hank got along with three of our four dogs, but was closely monitored as his energy level quickly surpassed our elderly dogs' tolerance. He sniffs cats but doesn't chase them. He has been around horses off leash without issue, has also been around cows and goats on leash but seemed afraid of them. He likes to go on runs around the property and with some training could be a good running parter, but he would need a supplement to keep arthritis from his hip surgery at bay. He would be ideal for a person who wants an active companion. Hank likes to go everywhere and pays close attention to us instead of other animals. We do not have kids at home so we don't know how he is with children, but he enjoys interacting with humans he knows so I have no doubt that he would enjoy children that could be trusted to respect dogs with time. He does not enjoy being crated but tolerates it. We've started basic clicker training with him and he picks up on it fast. Takes food gently. If you may be interested in Hank, pm me or call 817-925-0539 to set up a meet and greet. Please share far and wide. We own a large, aggressive dog who does NOT tolerate Hank. After a severe fight last night it is too dangerous for him to stay with us any longer. If we can't find him a home by Sunday, 10/7/18 we will be forced to take him to the shelter in Bastrop, which is a kill shelter unfortunately. Please share far and wide! I will travel to place him in an appropriate home!
