About Toby

I recently adopted a 55lb, 8 year old Australian Kelpie/Black Mouth Curr mix. I am not able to keep this dog because he is too strong and needs a calmer more consistent environment than I can provide. Toby is a beautiful, muscular dog that is house trained, knows basic obedience commands, walks well on a leash (although he pulls when agitated), rides well in the car, and loves to play fetch (and loves his ball!). The only thing he likes more than his ball is attention from a man. He is not interested in other dogs, ignores them when walking and very protective of his things (like his ball) when they share the same house. Toby is anxious to please and even more anxious to please when a small treat is involved. He is neutered, chipped, has all his shots and is very healthy. Toby was raised by a couple of college boys and needs an experienced dog owner with time to work with him. Toby is affectionate and looking for an alpha. Toby loves routine. He gets over excited when visitors come to the house, or when there are too many people coming in and out. I would not recommend him to a family with children. He is very protective of our home barking at visitors and is slow to calm down. I think he is worried it is his job to protect us because he doesn't think we can do it. This is where the training is necessary. He needs an owner that will be firm and consistent and in charge so he can relax and not feel he is in charge of protecting you. I need help finding the right home for this dog as soon as possible. I need to find an experienced large dog owner.
