About Max

Adoption Fee: $300.00
Fox Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Max. Max is a 34lb adult (the vet described him as 'looks like 12, but is probably 4 years-old') male Fox Terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Max is often a short nickname. It could be short for, Maxfield. Max is capable of standing alone in his field, as running is a favorite activity . . . whether in the forest or the field. It could stand for, Maxwell. Max walks pretty-well on leash. Or, it could stand for Maximilian. Because, we think Max is one-in-a-million. Max doesn't have major medical issues. But he does have a 'bum' right front leg. The vet believes that he suffered a fracture or break in the past that was not properly set. However, Max is able to walk, run and jump. But he has arthritis and his gait is off. Max takes a baby aspirin on days when he has difficulty. He also gets 'joint-gel' with his food daily, which is grain-free for allergies. If he seems itchy, he is given Benadryl. Max is described as being affectionate, eager to please, joyful, playful and well-behaved. He is learning basic commands, including, 'No,' and 'Leave-it.' Max is at his best when given appropriate outlets for his energy. He loves and needs to 'run wild a couple of times a day,' and takes a couple of daily walks with his person. A 1.5 mile walk in the morning and evening is perfect for Max. Longer walks can lead to painful limping due to his 'bum leg.' He currently is fostered in a home with a fenced in area. Like most fox terriers, Max is a runner so he should have a secure fenced-yard and a secure harness for walks. When not running, Max enjoys chewing on antlers or bones. Max is house trained. When left alone, Max is in the gated kitchen with an open crate and a dog-bed beside, and has not had any accidents. Max has been great with other dogs. However, Max is not great with cats. As with other small-critters, Max just wants to chase them. Max is overall quiet , only whining when he can see his people, but is separated from them. Max's foster person says he is 'very nice-probably the most personable foster I have ever had! He loves people, loves attention, and belly-rubs. He would do well with someone who can take him to work or is around the house a lot. . . he does like to run like crazy a few times a day, so he needs to be with someone who will play with him . . . he is ready for his forever home! Meet Max and you will be thinking Max is short of Maximum . . . energy, fun and love!
