Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender Special Needs: None noted What kind of home would be best for me? Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog. Our ideal puppy adopters are: (1) experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets, (2) scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day OR have another canine companion already in the home, (3) stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc). Owner Experience 2: First time dog owner. Had dogs or cats as a child. What is my personality like: Jack is part of a litter of 9 standard poodle puppies that were surrendered by a retiring breeder. For the first 7 months of his life, he has lived in a barn with his siblings. He loves to run and play in open, fenced in fields. He loves to play with his brothers and sisters. Jack is learning what it means to be a companion and pet. He is working on crate training and house training, neither of which he's had living in a barn. Jack is a very sweet boy who craves companionship with other dogs. He is still very shy but once you get your hands on him, he relaxes and warms up. He is scared on a leash but seems to do ok after you get to walking with him. He is underweight and is a picky eater. Jack has a gentle demeanor. He needs a family that will spend a lot of time with him and take him on long walks so that he can learn to be a dog. He also needs another dog in the home for companionship and to learn from. How do I act when I first meet new people: Shy, but curious and friendly Tips and Tidbits: House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
