About Kip

Adoption Fee: $300
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Updated! Kip, is a good example of a puppy taken from it's mom and siblings too early. I wanted to get Kip in loving home quick. He could just soak up all the attention and affection while still very puppyish. He needs nurturing! And he needs discipline! Kip has typical 'herding' tendencies and instinct. And with any brilliant herding dog, you can tell them when it's ok to do what, and when it's not. True to form, Kip SO wants to handle it for you! I have to be careful if I am correcting another dog, Kip will basically hold up his paw, to tell me, 'I got this' But, this is not appropriate behavior, and the other dogs do not appreciate! Kip is about a 10 month cattle Dog, he's got a little something else in there maybe border collie. He's a little herder. Kip came from the Riverside shelter where he was waiting patiently to be euthanized. I'm serious. I can see why he wound up in the shelter. He had no guidance, no one to give him confidence, no one to teach him what is appropriate or inappropriate behavior. And we have been working on just that ever since he got here. He's doing much better with people, and other dogs. You can see, he now knows how to be in a pack. I still keep him muzzled while I introduce him to people. But it comes off quickly. Kip isn't aggressive, he's insecure. So you might go to pet him, and he might just as soon offer you a nip instead. But that's what we've been working on and he's doing great, to where he seeks out affection and attention. Since Kip is very obedient with me, I can do anything I want with him including correct him when he's not good with a dog or person. With no worry of him disrespecting me. I know this can be done with an adopter, he just needs a calm, confident owner with common dog sense. Which isn't as common is one would hope. A perfect citizen here, but unless he respects you and your dogs, he tries to herd and get away with intimidation tactics. It's frustrating. He really knows how to be obedient, and he's housebroken, non destructive, fantastic with my personal dogs, pack members, reveres me, and is good with anyone I introduce him to. But senses dog people (assertive, pack leaders). He's a calm and lovely guy down when he knows, someone capable is running the show. Otherwise, he feels it's his personal duty to get things in order! Probably not a great dog to be with cats, but, I can get him to do, or not do, whatever I want. It's just training and consistency, and nothing takes very long. Dogs are such great, fast learners. Kip really isn't that big of a deal. He just needs some understanding and someone to ride herd on him until he figures it out completely. If you're a cattle dog person and you want one loyal little buddy who's very obedient, House broken and rides great in a vehicle, you might want to talk to me about Kip!
