About Valentine

Adoption Fee: $400
Lab / Border Collie
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

Valentine is fostered in Milton, FL (Santa Rosa County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families. Valentine is now 5 months old! She's very smart, has lot of energy, and also loves to cuddle when she pauses for a moment. She does wrestle and play with her canine siblings a whole lot. She has a great spirit and is a real sweetheart. She hasn't spent time in a home with children, but also hasn't been reactive to them when encountering them in public. We're not sure how she would do with cats or other small animals. She chases squirrels in the yard, but may be able to be taught appropriate boundaries in the home with smaller animals. Valentine has a few challenges that potential adopters need to be aware of. She has always been the shy, more cautious pup out of her litter, but is experiencing much more fear with new experiences and people in general. She is enrolled in a basic obedience group class, which we hope will give her more focus on her own people and help her feel more confident. She also will be attending a doggie daycare once a week to help her learn good manners with dogs other than the ones she lives with now. Valentine also is experiencing some separation anxiety, so we're working on some slow training to help her feel less anxious when her people are away. She would probably be most comfortable in a home where she isn't left alone very often. Due to her challenges with fear, Valentine will need to be adopted to a family with a fenced yard, where the fence is at least 6' tall. She is quite the climber/jumper when she gets worried and wants to get to her people. A confident, stable dog in the home would be important for Valentine, as well. Valentine seems to have an environmental allergy, possibly to grass. It is being controlled with an injection that she will need every 4-8 weeks. We weren't able to manage it with any other interventions, unfortunately. With the medicine, though, she is much more comfortable and not going crazy with being itchy! Valentine will need a very patient new family, but they will be rewarded with a pup who is sweet and loving. She really is a wonderful girl. Valentine will go home on a spay contract - once proof of spay is submitted within the specified time frame, $50 of her adoption donation can be refunded. Valentine is housebroken, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, preventives, and microchipped.
