About Smokey

Hello! My name is Smokey. I'm what you call a Shih-Tzu. I'm a big fella at almost 20 lbs. I think it's my fur that makes me look heavy? I am approximately 3 - 4 years old according to the vet's estimation. I came from a local shelter where I was a bit stressed and nervous around new situations. Unfortunately, I seem to be unfriendly when you first meet me. I've come from a bad background and it's hard for me to just let people love on me until I get to know them. I'm not going to kid you�'�| I don't do well out in public with lots of crowds and new noises - it stresses me. I need to learn to trust and at my own terms. I've learned to trust my foster dad. We hang out a lot together and I got him wrapped around my paw. Once I get to know you, I'm your big lovable Shih-Tzu�'�| your companion for life. I'm thinking that I'll need an older single person or couple as my family. Unfortunately, because of my personality at this time, I'm not suited for most children - my foster home might consider 13 years or older after a meet and greet. I have received all my shots and I have been neutered, heartworm and fecal tested (both results negative) and micro-chipped. I'm working on my crate/leash/house-training. I need more time, but I'm going to get it. My foster mom says that I'm about 90% house trained... I will go potty outside�'�| it's the signals that we're working on. I'm looking for a new home that has plenty of food to eat, toys to play with, and a warm soft bed to sleep in. I do need a fenced-in yard to play in. I came from a home which wasn't so nice and it's time for me to live the good life. I'm looking for a second chance at life. In the meantime, I'm learning how to fit into my new foster home.
