About Cooper

Dachshund
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

My 8lb, almost 21yr old, female dachshund, passed away in June. We picked up Cooper on Tuesday August 31 believing that we would be okay with an older dog in our current situation of an apartment w/o a fenced yard. I was wrong. Though he does show some signs of possible abuse or neglect, he overcame that very quickly. The first night I think I startled him in his sleep and he nipped at me. I turned the light on and he was very apologetic and it has not happened again. The issue is that he is very well paper trained for potty. Too well trained. We have taken half hour walks on the leash, he is very good on the leash, no tugging or pulling, but he won't potty. He will go immediately when taken back inside, on his potty pad. I believe he will train right out of this if he had a fenced yard to be let run, and let him take care of business. I hate giving him up, but I don't think we are the best situation for him. Kids and cats are fine. I have not seen any issues with other dogs personally, I was told that a 1 dog household would be the better way to go. Though while on our walks, he has not made any attempts at going after other dogs. In fact he seems to be just fine ignoring them. Please help me put this beautiful dachshund in a better place. He is 10.5 pounds, shot records show he may need a couple shots updated, (or not?), I have the paperwork for you to review. I was told he is purebred, but they could not find the papers. He does seem to be pure. Beautiful little boy, snuggles with me in bed. Not super rambuncious, but playful, does bark occasionally, but not excessively, seems to learn quickly which new noises are normal and which are not. Looks and seems healthy. Might have some back issues though, he does not jump up or down off things, or up stairs
