About Shadow

Shadow is an 80# black lab mix (husky and chow are his other breeds) with some skin issues. He's 8 years old and is in otherwise good shape, and current on his shots and vaccinations. As best I can tell, his allergies are environmental. He doesn't like coming into contact with grass, and does a fair amount of shaking and chewing on/ grooming his feet after coming inside. I have had him about a year and he seems to do well on a steady diet of the Costco grain-free food and fish oil supplements. I've been putting coconut oil on his food too. I've also been wiping his feet with wet wipes when he comes inside and that seems to have helped. Summer is the most challenging time for him allergy-wise. He mostly just wants to be inside, chilling on his bed. Also, a setting where he can spend time outdoors on pavement or decking would make him happy. Personality-wise, he's low-key, and a complete mush, a sweet guy. He's smart, and likes to have a variety of things like bones and hooves to chew on. He has a bit of a high energy side from the husky I think. It manifests in his toy and bone chewing. He will play hide n' seek if you hide from him outdoors! He is usually low man on the totem pole with other dogs in terms of alpa-ness. He loves cats too. I took him in last Fall because his previous owner was moving out of state and planning to drop him off at the shelter. I thought that his chances of adoption would be slim because of his patchy coat combined with his age. I am looking to pass the baton to someone who wants to provide a home for a sweet guy with allergy issues in his final years. I live in a tiny house in the country. I thought that being in the country would be a good final place for him, but he doesn't want to come into contact with green things, and wants to spend most of his time in the house. He loves people, so he'd be happy to have one or more humans to love. He will sit on your foot if he can (to be close to you), put his head on your lap, and despite his multiple itchy spots, he is a glutton for belly rubs!
