[Read About Natural Seizure Care] I need to find a new home for my Doberman boy,he is a special needs dog since he is on anti seizure meds(phenobarbital and zonisamide)I know the pheno is effective but I'm not sure the zonisamide is doing anything so that one may need revisiting, the past few years he has had an average of 3-5 seizures per year longest period without one was 7 months and it may be due to stress or environment.I originally rescued him from a neglect situation approximately 5 years ago (he will be 7 in September)for a friend who was supposed to come get him but then had a last minute housing change and could no longer have him.I was not prepared to have a dog but have been doing the best I can but my situation has gotten more difficult and unfortunately I don't have much time for him so he has been getting much less exercise and playtime than he needs.I have been helping care for my elderly parents the past year and recently my mother had a fall and after hip replacement her dementia went into overdrive, that and my father having a knee replacement at the same time has me now taking care of all the house duties shopping etc so poor Shadow gets only a bit of the little time I have left and he deserves better.A bit about him,he is very playful but also pulls a lot on leash,he barks at strange dogs so I always assumed incorrectly he didn't want to associate with any but last summer while out of town when one got near enough for him to reach he did a sniff fest and became buddy buddy with him and it became clear to me he needs a buddy which I cant do.He is pure breed although I was never given any papers from the previous owner and due to the meds my vet advised against fixing him so he should not be near any unfixed females unless that is revisited.I'm hoping to get him a forever home with a buddy to spend his energy with and of course owners who have time for him.I haven't had him around kids so not sure how he is with them but do know he likes to chase cats,my folks do have one but on a different floor so no issue so far.And also worth noting aside from the occasional seizures hes never actually been sick or had any sickness related vet visits, just routine shots once a year which he is up to date on and seizure related monitoring visits once every 6 months.
