About Manchee

Manchee is your dream dog in so many ways -- very smart and trainable (a herding breed!), housetrained, walks well on a leash, gets along with most other dogs (he goes to doggie day care), generally ignores cats, and is excellent at fetch. At around 5-6 years old, he's the best age -- young enough to be perfectly healthy and up for an adventure, but old enough to appreciate a good snooze or snuggle. And at 43 pounds, he's the perfect size! He's extremely healthy and low-maintenance, up to date with all vaccines, and gets a topical flea/tick/heartworm medication (Revolution) monthly. He does have food intolerances to chicken and rice, and he has seasonal allergies (we give him all natural allergy drops in his food). We rescued him in February 2014, and he's been a beloved pet and family member for four years. Unfortunately, he's not a fan of children, and we've seen him get very anxious around kids. We were hoping that familiarity and experience would help him warm up to our 10-month-old baby, but he's neutral at best and has gotten very tense now that our son is crawling. After he nipped our nephew, we made the heartbreaking decision to rehome Manchee. He does also have anxiety issues with new people, but some treats and a calm introduction usually do the trick. An experienced adopter (especially with doggie anxiety issues and/or herding breeds) with no kids in a calm household and a yard or nearby park for fetch would be ideal. Manchee is an incredible dog and a beloved family member, but this situation is urgent, as we can't keep him in our home, and no local fosters or rescues have space. We are devastated and hope to find him the wonderful new forever home that he deserves.
