About Ava

Shih Tzu / Maltese
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Ava is a dignified senior citizen that deserves far better then being turned into a high kill shelter for euthanasia. We're so grateful to our kind and compassionate New Mexico rescuer for opening her home and heart to Ava. As our foster said so well..Ava is the most cuddly and loving snugglebug I've ever fostered! She's a very low maintenance girl who is SO sweet! She just wants to love and be loved. Ava is a perfect choice for anyone who is searching for a best friend to provide quiet companionship and pure love. Ava, at just about 13.5 years old and 12 lbs would be that perfect companion for anyone who is searching for a very sweet lap dog who doesn't require lots of exercise. She will be by your side to hug and love on...these are always the most important things to Ava! She's a small pup and so portable and well-behaved that she can be a full-time best friend...accompanying her guardians everywhere a sweet and very lovable dog is allowed. Ave has lost her vision in the last few years and will require drops for dry eye (very inexpensive fix) but that never stops her from living her life to the fullest. In her foster's home, she keeps up with younger seniors with no problem..and absolutely loves her life! She's a very positive force that teaches us that life isn't over just because you're advancing in years. It's always amazing to us at Farfel's Rescue that these dogs with very sweet and engaging temperaments (and as dignified as Ava) end up in precarious situations. Ava was a last-minute save for her rescuer...she would have been euthanized in a dismal New Mexico shelter if kind rescuers hadn't stepped up. But how could they not have? This sweetheart (with no medical challenges other then the natural aging changes to her eyes) is just so awesome with time ahead to be a lover l(smaller breeds, with great nutrition and lots of love can live to very ripe old ages) ...a life in which she can bring so much joy to a special individual or family. Ava may be a bit shy initially as rehoming is challenging for any dog...but with love and nurturing, she will absolutely shine. We envision Ava with either retirees (she would be overjoyed with time spent and being at the center of a loving family) or a younger family who enjoy spending their time at home. A like-sized, older canine friend would be great as well. Ava would enjoy the companionship and cuddle times with a furry best friend. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside along beautiful Colorado paths ...Ava would love nothing more than to share the experience. A front (or back) pack would be perfect for Ava to enjoy the fun of hiking in Colorado. Her New Mexico foster enjoys time outside in her yard and Ava loves it also...right by her side. She breathes in the air...so happy to be outside in the cool breeze. And then, maybe Ava's favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed close beside her beloved family members. As a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix, Ava is a non-shedding dog (and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available today). As is evident in her photo, Ava coat has had some care and grooming. She also appears to have been taken care of medically and is current on her vaccinations. Any family interested in adopting Ava will need to commit to coat care. She will require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement with premium food is important for coat care and longevity) to keep her hair cottony- soft, healthy and matt-free. Ava will be arriving on transport in Boulder sometime in September (information will be updated when confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ava please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving girl. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
