About Pepper

Adoption Fee: $300
Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet pretty Pepper! We picked up precociously pretty Pepper from a proper pickle with her previous person!!! She is a sweet 4 year old Chihuahua who weighs 6 pounds. Pepper was owner surrendered to us because she didn't fit with the family any more. The owner's grandchildren were moving in and Pepper just doesn't do well with small children. They are too unpredictable in their movements and noise level and they just make her too anxious and unpredictable around them. Pepper has not been tested with cats but she is good with other dogs, so another dog in the house would be a great fit for her as she will bond and play with other dogs her size. We have seen Pepper make a lot of progress since she has been with us. We have moved her a couple of times to socialize her more and each time she has moved it has taken her less and less time to settle and feel safe. Pepper will still have her moments of insecurity, however after only 5 days with her current foster she is sweet and affectionate 90% of the time. Some might say the other 10% is just her being a Chihuahua (!). Pepper tends to bond with one person first if there is more than one in the house. She will then start to get to know the others in the house once she has established that first bond. She is definitely her own dog and will need a lot of love and patience to let her find her way in her own time. She's not a dog you can just pick up and expect her to be affectionate straight away but she will let you know when she is ready and then you better pucker up because it's kisses all the way! She is housetrained and loves to go outside any chance she gets. If you are out at work and are unable to keep a schedule throughout the day, she will use a puppy pad. She currently sleeps on the bed with her foster. Pepper has a favorite stuffed bunny that she is very attached to and likes to have in bed with her. She will usually play for a bit before settling down and sleeping through the night, snuggled on the blankets. She may prefer her own bed for the first night or two until she trusts you enough to pick her up and put her on the bed if it is too high for her to get on unassisted. If you are looking for instantly easy, Pepper isn't your girl, but give her a week of unconditional love and she will be the perfect addition to your family. Like any dog you will need to earn her trust, but what a reward is waiting for you when you cross that bridge! Will you give her a chance at a normal life where she will be loved and cared for the rest of hers?
