About Dusty-ADOPTION PENDING

Dusty would be a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for a very sweet and loving lap dog that can accompany his family everywhere a great little dog is allowed. He's also social and would be thrilled with neighborhood walks..stopping periodically to talk with dog-loving neighbors. At just about 8.5 years old and 12 lbs, Dusty is so portable that he can be a full-time best friend. Dusty is at such a great age..old enough to be past any babyish behaviors and young enough to have many healthy and active years left. He's also a perfect weight to be a lap dog extraordinaire and is welcome everywhere a smaller dog is acceptable. Dusty will be thrilled to come along..he will love car rides to fun places...mountain paths, parks (Dusty loves playing with other dogs!) and any fun places where dogs are welcome. Dusty was a last-minute save for us...he would have been euthanized in a dismal Texas shelter if a kind and compassionate rescuer hadn't stepped up. Dusty had been turned into the shelter for euthanasia due to dermatitis. This is a skin condition caused by humid conditions, filth and extreme stress. While Dermatitis is extremely itchy and annoying for the dog, it can easily be cleared up with an oral antibiotic, a soothing topical and a change in their life situation to a less stressful one. Since Dusty has left the shelter for a stay in a Texas foster home prior to his transport to Colorado, he is on an antibiotic, he's getting soothing daily skin treatments and is in a very calm home situation. Dusty's skin is well on its way to becoming completely clear. Dusty may be frightened initially at transport since rehoming is scary ..but with love and nurturing, he will absolutely shine We envision Dusty with an active and patient retired couple or individual...he would be overjoyed with the time he could spend in their company. It's not that Dusty is a needy guy...not at all...he just enjoys the company of his humans who love him like crazy for all his wonderful traits. Dusty likes children and enjoys playing with them...but we would only be open to older kids who can be gentle and understanding that Dusty is a small pup and needs soft and very kind handling. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in the beautiful Colorado scenery, Dusty would love nothing more than to share the experience. He is always up for a walk together, fascinated by the activity around him. He breathes in the air, so happy to be free of the dismal shelter environment. Then, maybe his favorite part...it's time to end the day with treats, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed beside his favorite people. Dusty is a non-shedding guy. Poodle/Bichon mixes are considered by many to be one of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available today. Dusty will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is excellent for longevity and coat care) to keep his coat cottony-soft and matt-free.
