About URGENT FOR MACKENSIE

American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

This is an urgent call for this beautiful girl who only has until the 4th to live!! She has this cute face and black and pink nose...She is in a high kill Shelter and maybe someone will help her. She was a stray so we are not sure how she is with other dogs. We have a donor who will be taking care of the orthopedic Veterinarian bill for Mackenzie. This what the shelter has to say about her: Mackenzie is an approximately 1 year old female mixed breed dog with a healing femoral fracture (broken back leg). At this time, has not been HW tested. Can spay with commitment. Vet note regarding the leg is below. Please let us know by 9 AM 9/4 if you can take this girl. 'I would strongly recommend against amputation. I think this leg has an excellent chance to heal. In fact, it's already at least 1-2 weeks into healing because of all the periosteal reaction. It's pretty well aligned and should remodel. I wouldn't worry too much about the sharp edges, I've seen those remodel. It's probably also covered with fibrous tissue that you can't see on the rads, so surgery would be tough and would involve re-fracturing it and clearing out all the fibrous tissue'| not fun. If you can get someone to strictly cage rest this dog for a good 8-12 weeks, that may be the best bet. I'm more concerned about the chip fracture. The gluteal muscles insert on the greater trochanter, so their pull may delay that from healing properly. A tension band may do the trick there, or perhaps a lag screw (?). However, I'm not sure how much is going to be lost by cage rest and then reevaluating that fracture as well.' She is very sweet and deserves a chance.
