About Coturnix quail

Adoption Fee: $10
Pet Bird
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Righty, a male coturnix quail about 11 weeks old. Righty was dumped at a veterinary clinic at about 2 weeks old. Though he is domestic, our wildlife rescue group has been fostering him ever since, but Righty would love a forever home. He likes to scratch and dust and forage, and would love to be on the ground in grass and dirt! Mealworms are his favorite, and though he will sometimes eat them out of your hand, he tends to be fairly skittish. This is in large part because he feels trapped in his small enclosure -- we have every hope he will warm up more with space and friendly treats! Righty is a fairly submissive male and would pair well with multiple female coturnix, but is too dominant to share the same space as another male (though he would do fine in an adjacent space). He may also pair well with a bigger or more dominant poultry bird of another species (pheasant/peacock/etc), but this is untested. Righty can be outdoors year round if given time to acclimate to colder weather, shelter, and a secure enclosure against predators. Righty has a slight right wing droop (visible in photo) due to a now-healed sprain caused by his brother and former 'roommate,' the Fonz. Please reach out if you think you might have the home for this sweet boy.
