About Widget

What's a Widget? A Widget is a small mechanical gadget or a component of a larger device. And, a Widget is a 7 year-old female Bassett Hound. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. This Widget's current home is out of synch with her operating systems and she is looking for a better fit. Widget is a lovable goofball of a dog. She loves belly-rubs and snuggling up next to her person on the couch. Her short legs don't prevent her from running through the house and yard-it's something that she does when she's feeling playful and the visible grin on her face is evidence that it makes her happy. Widget is open to new experiences. She has been kayaking and horseback riding . . . no, not on a specially designed saddle, but cradled in her person's arms after she tired during a long walk. Widget also enjoys supervising you while you complete chores, from a relaxed position in the sunny spot on the floor, with her eyes closed. Widget has friendly interactions with new people, she just needs them to ignore her and allow her to come to them when she feels comfortable-this is important to her having successful interactions. Unsolicited attention, especially from young children, should not be allowed. She warms up more quickly to women and children then to men-who make her a bit nervous. Widget likes to sleep under the table at meal times, in hope that there might be a treat shared with her when you are finished. She takes treats gently, even off of a spoon or fork. Widget is housetrained, non-destructive and is trusted with free run of the house. But, if you don't want her drinking from the toilet, put down the lid or shut the door. She walks well on leash and knows, Sit, Stay and (sometimes) Come. She has not lived with cats and likes to chase them and other small animals. She enjoys playing chase and tackle with other dogs outside-indoor interactions require proper introductions. She is dog selective and is a better fit with those who are laid-back as she can be anxious. She prefers to collect toys and pile them on her bed-fetch and tug-o-war are totally foreign concepts. Widget responds best to a positive voice and gentle hand. She tends to guard her food from other dogs, but not people. Widget is generally quiet and communicates with a whine versus a howl when she has something to say. If she has to take a ride longer than 15 minutes, it's best to limit food prior and give her Benadryl. Widget, a name that normally applies to a small mechanical device or part, is a dog with a big expressive personality. She thrives on love and attention. She is quirky, dorky and endlessly amusing. Widget wants a family where her 'widget' is a perfect, precision fit.
