I am in tears writing this. My husband and I have decided to rehome our red heeler, Zip. We have had him since he was 16 weeks, this is the hardest thing I've had to do. I have severe ocd, it's getting worse. I have little kids at home and a husband that's gone a lot and it's just been so so much for me. I spend most of my days cleaning and scrubbing in situations that come up, really getting nothing done. Mentally and emotionally I'm not in a good place. I need to focus on my kids, and the dog deserves better too. Hardest thing I've ever had to do, we love him and he loves his people. He's 8 years old, dominant but would be ok in a home with another dog as he grew up with 2 others, and cats, chickens, horses, etc. That was a few years ago though in another life lol. Now he's a city dog. Housebroken, up to date on rabies til October, current negative heartworm test in June and on heartworm prevention. 65 lbs, no health problems, he knows all of his good behavior commands (sit, stay, down for lay down), and lots of tricks including shoot him with your finger and say BANG and he 'dies'. Does not jump unless he's excited then might jump on you once or twice. He likes to put his ball under the couch, in the kids toy box, just to create a little challenge for himself haha. He is ok with kids, mine hang all over him and he will show his teeth like a big brother saying he's had enough but never goes further. Total Velcro dog, loves the ball more than anything, does not wander as most don't. He could be a good cuddler on the couch but I don't allow him, he is one to tell you if he did something naughty before you even have a chance to see something is amiss lol. He is pretty low energy as far as heelers go, happy to lay around and nap for most of the day. But his ball!! Boy does he love his ball and his walks. I hope to find a wonderful home for him to get a second chance just being a dog and out of this prison I seem to have him in. My daughter dressed him up as a pretty pretty princess in this picture. He is well loved.
