About Scarlet

German Shepherd / Pug
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Our sweet and beautiful Scarlet couldn't be more loving no matter how hard she tried. Scarlet is a 9 - 12 month old, 37 lb German Shepherd/Pug mix.You may think a German Shepherd/Pug..how funny. We did too but now we know it's perfect (so silly/cute, cuddly and super-sweet) and surprised it's not a very popular designer mix. Both German Shepherds and Pug mixes have grown in popularity tremendously over the past few years. It makes perfect sense in that both are known for their great temperaments, loyalty and love of their people. Farfel's rescues many Pugs as well as Shepherd mixes that are in need of our help with confidence they will blossom into great family members. Scarlet has all the wonderful traits of both breeds and was described by her New Mexico foster mom as super-sweet and playful with a strong desire to please. She exhibits the love and loyalty to her people of both breeds in her mix! Scarlet was adopted as a puppy by her relinquishing family with the goal of her being a service dog. They watched her grow into a super-smart and playful puppy who they thought would be perfect for the job simply because she's very sweet and intelligent. While their intentions were honorable, their follow through with training didn't occur. Without the training experience, it's unrealistic to expect any dog to just naturally have the skills to succeed in a service capacity. Scarlet was relinquished to our rescuer because she's an energetic puppy that didn't just naturally (without any training) have the ability to be a service dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to match Scarlet to a family that doesn't commit to training classes. We feel that she has so many gifts to share with a family that understands her nature. Scarlet will be a gem (with her great temperament and desire to please) to a home that understands her natural gifts of love and loyalty to her family. Once bonded, Scarlet will blossom with positive reinforcement (force free) training into a loyal, loving and well-behaved best-friend. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement/ force-free trainers in your area. We've received the following information from Scarlet's New Mexico foster mom: Scarlet is a gorgeous (really, truly stunning!) German Shepherd/Pug mix. I laughed when I heard the mix too :-) I'm not laughing now. Scarlet is amazing! She's just naturally great with people..as a matter of fact, they're absolutely her passion! I don't mean to say she doesn't enjoy other dogs, she does but can be intimidated by larger rambunctious canines. She does really well with my Dachshund and Cairn Terrier and loves to play in the yard and have fun. But in the end, it's her people that are the love of her life. It's really this devotion to her people that makes this dog very special. She will be the most loyal and loving family companion...but it is with training that these special qualities will be channelled in a positive direction. Her bonding will know no end with her family/handler in training class. With consistency in her life, this dog will absolutely shine! Scarlet is working on her house-training and has made great progress. She's a clean and house respectful girl..with a bit of guidance she'll be just about perfect. If a family is dog-savvy and open to earning a dog's respect (instead of immediate gratification), Scarlet could be the find of a lifetime! I've fallen in love with her beauty, kindness and amazing love and loyalty for the people who are kind while expressing their leadership. Scarlet desires to be a full-time best friend and loves to come along..be it to a dog-friendly workplace, a hike on a beautiful Colorado trail, a vacation or just socializing'|Scarlet would love to be there as Companion #1. She has such a pleasant personality and is learning important lessons about behavior out in the community..with the continuation of this protocol, Scarlet will shine. Scarlet wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone'|she is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. An active retiree or a person who works either part-time or from home would be great. Scarlet would love the friendship, companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being a young dog, she'd also learn that she's loved, cared for and respected. This is a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. Scarlet will be arriving on transport in Denver in early September...we'll update the exact date when information is finalized. Applications are currently being accepted for this loving and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Scarlet, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving girl.
