I wasn't always an orphan. I had a person for the past 8 years or so. We lived in a house together and shared our days and nights. We were happy. Then things started to change. My person lost his job and he couldn't buy me all the toys and treats he did in the past. He was really sad. Then one night we slept in the car and at first I thought it was kind of exciting but after a few nights I missed my bed and my person was really upset and sad all the time. One day he just held me and cried and said this wasn't going to work because he didn't have the money to buy us food. He said he was going to take me to a safe place where I would get fed. He promised it would be ok. The next day, he took me to this place where there were lots of other dogs. I guess they all didn't have anything to eat either. They were all barking and it was so loud. I thought my person and I would get something to eat there and it would be ok but instead we went in and he handed my leash over to the lady at the desk. He hugged me and kissed me and he was crying. He said it'll be ok. I watched him leave and I was so confused. They put me in a room by myself but I could see all the other dogs. I just looked around and wondered when my person would be back. He never came. He was right. The shelter people did feed me and then a place called a rescue took me to help me get on my feet again. Now they are looking for a place for me to live. I'm a seasoned, older fellow so I don't have families banging down my door but just want you to know I do have a lot of spunk let in me. I can certainly still chase a ball and hang with the best of them. I don't ask for lots of attention but I do like it. In other words I'm not high maintenance but I do enjoy a belly rub.
