About Jay

Adoption Fee: $25
Alaskan Malamute / German Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

I have an 88 year-old caregiving client who is having trouble taking care of a senior, previously abused, former rescue and very timid, sweetheart of a dog named Jay. My client lives with his son who has three businesses and is seldom home. My client has dementia and either forgets to change the water and feed Jay, or else feeds her several times because he forgot he already did, or gives her his leftover human food treating her like a garbage disposal and overfeeding her. Jay has to travel down a very steep flight of stairs to get to the yard, and she has no access to a doggy door. My client sometimes forgets to let Jay back outside. My client used to walk Jay but now he must use a walker, and it is not safe for him to walk Jay anymore because she is a medium sized dog weighing 60-70 lbs. Jay is very gentle and submissive, but she can pull strongly and has knocked my client over. Jay is so timid that she spends most of her time in her dog house. Today I went over on my time off with another lady to walk Jay and try to socialize her more, and we took Jay to an open free space, and I finally got to see Jay be more relaxed. She walked nicely on a leash and did not pull me. She scratched her paws in the grass and cooled down in the creek. Are You willing to be Jay's hero? My client's son does not want this dog anymore, and if anything happens to my client it will not be a good situation for Jay alone without him. Jay would do better with some gentle people who can understand her, and a home that is on one level where she can more easily get outside. Jay used to live with a smaller dog that passed away. Jay's teeth are in very good shape. She is probably 8-10 years old. She has a bump in her eyelid. Jay has a very thick coat and stands 23 inches tall at the shoulder. I am guessing at her breed mix based on her characteristics. Thank You for your consideration to love this sweet dog!!!
