About Cyrus

German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

On Thursday, January 18th GSRNJ received a plea for help from friends who found a stray German Shepherd dog walking the streets of Newark all alone, with no owner to be found. Not only was he roaming alone in the cold, he was hungry and it looked like he was missing a lot of hair on his back. It was obvious he was in pain, so when they were able to get a closer look at his back they saw he had a large wound that looked like a burn that required medical attention. Luckily his guardian angels were there and dedicated to getting him the help he needed. He would no longer be alone. Since it was after hours and authorities were not responding to pleas for help, his guardian angels found him a warm place to spend the night where he was safe and had a full belly. They sprang into action and reached out to rescue. Through it all this boy was sweet and liked giving kisses. On January 19 Cyrus had a debridement where he had skin and fur removed so his burn could be properly cleaned and treated. Now approximately 3 months later, almost all of his hair has grown back and his wound almost completely healed. Originally we were told that it would take 6-9 months for Cyrus to heal and that his hair would most likely not grow back where he was burned the worst. Cyrus has surprised us all! He is such a warrior, is quickly healing and his hair is almost grown back completely. Thanks to his wonderful foster home and the dedication of GSRNJ volunteers, Cyrus is well on his way to a complete recovery. Now that Cyrus is feeling much better and is no longer on any medication, GSRNJ volunteers are working with him on leash manners and basic obedience. Cyrus will chase cats and think they are toys so a home without kitties is a must. Cyrus has been cleared by his vet to now move onto his forever home.
