About Bailey

Pit Bull / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

MEET BAILEY, 3.5 year old Pit, neutered, 65 lb male. A CAT IN DOG'S CLOTHES - Explanation below. I know my face drew you in, didn't it?? I'm like the Joker only much nicer!! And I know I have that face and those wrinkly eye brows that people just want to come up and love. Now I guess is the time to tell you, I am not your typical pit bull in that I'm a pretty independent and mild mannered fellow. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE having people around and I want so much to cuddle and be patted but I'm just not comfortable with that. I lived a pretty overprotected life as a pup and so any new thing or person I meet with trepidation. So%BD'%BD|you will have to be very patient with me. I have come a long way. I mean just look at the video of me meeting this person for the first time!!! Something about her I was just drawn too but most times I keep my distance and I love from a far. I don't mind cats and I would do best with another mild mannered dog I could have as company but wouldn't need to interact with me much and he or she could help me learn not to be so scared. My foster says I'm a cat in dog's clothes. I think that describes me best. Despite my fear, I'm a happy go lucky boy with lots of puppy energy. When I'm outside on leash I easily pass other dogs, humans and wildlife. If I do become distracted you can give me a friendly reminder to 'come'and I will move along. If I see you while I'm out I will be more than happy to greet you with my tail a waggin. I'm only 2 years old and still learning some manners. Sometimes I get very excited when I play so it's best that I have no rough interaction until I learn that I cannot be jumpy and mouthy when I play. That's something I can learn to control with training. I will have these bursts of energy when playing and forget how strong I am. I will build up speed like a middle linebacker ready to tackle you or jump like an NBA player. For this reason I would do best with teenage children (13 & up) who have large dog experience. I'm crate trained but prefer not to be left alone in there for long periods. I need to get out a stretch my legs you know. I have no food aggression; and I will sit and patiently wait for the cue before eating my food. Want me to learn new things? No problem, just bust out the treats as I am very food motivated and I am willing to learn. Over the past several weeks I've learned the commands sit, stay, come, off, lay down, and crate. The 'drop it' cue is still a work in progress. When all else fails say 'treat' and you will get my attention every time. :) I have no issues with getting a bath, in fact I will jump right in the tub. I still have a few of those 'terrible two's' still lingering so make sure to have lots of chew toys available and its best to keep an eye on me when I am roaming the house. I know I have a lot of potential, and with patience and lots of love I will become your best friend for life.
