About Trixie

Trixie is a 3 YO, 26 pound, playful, friendly, and affectionate dog who needs a new home. She was surrendered to PAWS when her owner could no longer care for her. She is a loving dog and wants to be with her person in their lap at all times. Her personality and behavior can best be described as a couch potato, quiet (for the most part), laid back, and cautious. She will only growl at another dog when they approach her around her food or her human, but she never bites or shows her teeth. Trixie is somewhat active and is not as vocal as most Beagles are. She is a little fearful and nervous around strangers and will shake all over when one approaches her. She isn't aggressive, but just needs a little while to warm up to people. Trixie is shy when she first meets you, but once she gets used to you, she will love you with everything she has. She is playful and friendly with cats and likes to chase them and chickens, but only to play with them and not to hurt them. She is a hunting dog so this is part of her nature. Trixie's housetraining is a work in progress. She will potty outside on her own and uses pee pads when inside. However, she won't potty outside on a leash. New adopters will need to work with her on this. We recommend a home with a fenced-in yard where she could be let out to do her business. A doggie door would be a bonus! She walks nicely on a leash and likes her crate where she goes into easily. Trixie is not a barker or chewer, and is fine being left alone at home while her foster is at work. At night, she loves to sleep on her foster's bed. She's normally left alone for 6-8 hours, and there is no sign of separation anxiety and no incidences of destruction. Trixie would do best as an only dog in a family and ones who are experienced dog owners. She wants to be with her people and sit in their laps. She's eager to please and wants to show lots of love and attention. She will need a period of adjustment when getting to know her new family, but once she feels loved and secure, she'll blossom!
