About Gunther

Rottweiler mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Hi, My name is Gunther! I know, I don't look much like a Rottweiler, but I've got the heart of one! I think at least one of my parents may have been a shepherd, but I'm not really certain. That's ok though, I'm a pretty cute pup if I do say so myself. So how'd I become an honorary Rottweiler you may ask? Well, my foster mom saw me online and sent out a desperate plea to save me after finding out I was set to be euthanized because I was exposed to parvo after my kennel mate contracted it and passed away. Just so happens my 2 SSRR foster sisters had parvo when they came to live with my foster family, so they were all set up to be able to take me in and provide what I needed had I ended up with parvo too. Otherwise, my chances of making it out of the shelter alive were extremely slim. The awesome folks with Southern States Rescued Rottweilers agreed I could become an honorary rottie and worked tirelessly overnight to get all the paperwork submitted to the shelter before my deadline. The next day my foster mom came to pick me up and I was soooooooooooooo happy to see her. She had little people with her too! How lucky was I? Jackpot! Good new! After 2 weeks in quarantine...it was very boring mind you, I never contracted parvo and have a fairly clean bill of health. I do have a little skin issue the vet and my foster family have been treating me for, but it's much, much better than when I left the shelter and I should be even more handsome than I already am very soon. I'm about 40lbs and 6 months old now. I have really big feet that I'm really trying to grow into so hopefully once I'm an adult, I thinking I might be about 70lbs or so. Since you've read this far, I assume you'd like to know a bit more about me. I love people! Like, I really, really love people! I want to be with people as much as possible. I actually think I'm people. See, I don't really remember my siblings or my parents. I just know people. When I came to my foster home I wasn't quite sure about all these dogs and cats that were living there too. It took me a little time to get to know them and be sure they weren't going to do me harm. My foster brothers and sisters try to get me to play with them, but I'm content just standing by my people and watching everyone else play. My foster family is trying to teach me how to be a dog and every now and then they show me something that I like. For the most part though, I'm content to be a people. That doesn't mean I don't like other dogs, I just have to be given some time to trust other dogs. Sometimes I bark at other dogs because I think it will keep them from coming near me. But when my family tells me things will be ok, I am really good at listening to them and following their lead. It's taken me a little bit of time, but I get along with my foster sisters really, really well. I even eat around them without thinking they are going to steal my food. I have a foster brother though and he's big and scary so I get a little defensive with him. My foster parents keep telling me he's a big baby, but I'm pretty scared of him so I bark at him and then he barks at me. But then my foster parents tell us both to stop and we listen. Then they let us sniff each other, but we haven't tried to run around without our foster parents keeping us both in check just yet. I'm getting used to him though. I think we'll be friends in the long run but I just need a little more time to get used to him. Did I mention he's big and scary and I really didn't know much about dogs until I came to my foster home? With time and patience we'll be buds soon. They have these furry animals called cats. Have you seen these things! I try to get a good look at them by sticking my face in their face, but one keeps hitting me so I leave her alone. The other one is big and scary. I think he's part dog. I don't mess with him too much either. There's a little one though. She doesn't do much but sleep. Sometimes I mess with her until she gets mad and hits me too. My foster mom tells me to leave them alone. Sometimes I listen, but I'm really interested in learning more about what they are. I don't mean them harm, but when they scurry off I think they want to play. I'm starting to realize they don't though. I guess I'll just stick to my people. I'm just about 6 months old so I still have some puppy tendencies. Sometimes I get excited and jump up, but with the help of my foster family, I've been doing that less and less. I really just love them so much I want to be right there where they can reach me without having to bend over. Just looking out for them. I walk pretty well on a leash. Actually, I prefer to be walked. I like having my people beside me even when I go outside for a potty break. I know as I get older and more sure of myself I'll be ok to do all these things by myself, but I'm still getting used to a lot in this world and it's a bit scary out there so I like to have a people nearby as much as possible.
