About Checkers

Pupdate: Checkers is a young dog who didn't get the structure and obedience training a young dog needs. We have decided to get him some professional training to work on some of these behaviors while he is looking for his forever home. Adopters will be willing to participate in his training(paid for by the rescue) and reinforce at home. He is a woderful dog with a ton of potential. Meet Checkers! This happy go-lucky boy is adorable! He has come all the way from Texas in search of his forever home. Checkers is a 1 yo, 33 lb., flat coat retriever/sharpei/chow chow/mix breed. He has been living in a foster home that includes children and other dogs. Checkers takes a little bit to warm up to new people but greeting him with a yummy treat has him wagging his tail in no time. He loves to play with squeeky toys, and is always up for a game of fetch. Walks and cuddle time complete his list of favorites! Checkers is still a young dog with alot of puppy energy and would benefit from basic obedience classes that would help him continue working on his manners and socialization skills. Checkers is house trained, knows sit, and is very smart and eager to please. Checkers would fit right in with most any type family and would do well as a single pet or with another friendly furry friend. He feels more comfortable with calmer friendly dogs that are around his size or smaller. Checkers is fully vetted, UTD on all vaccines and preventatives, HW tested, neutered and microchipped. if you are interested in meeting Checkers please email [email protected] for an application. We are all volunteers with jobs and families in addition to our rescue dogs. We do our best to respond within 24 hours but please be patient. Applicants under 25 years of age will need to demonstrate an adult lifestyle. If you rent your home we require a letter from the landlord submitted with your application granting permission for a pet. A fenced yard is preferred.
