About Friski

Adoption Fee: $30
Dachshund
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Friski is an 11-year-old, sweet, spayed female Dachshund who was born in Texas. She is happy, waggy, and energetically greets you when you arrive home after an absence. She loves to lie on laps. She's great with all kids and adults. Friski came to us two years ago when my father, a disabled U.S. Army veteran, suddenly moved to Minnesota a few months after my mother died. He brought Friski and two other dogs with him. The senior living apartment building where he now resides allowed him to have one dog and he chose Friski, the oldest of the three. We are heartbroken that, due to his disability, he can no longer care for her. My husband and I adopted the other two dogs he brought with him, bringing our total to three and we cannot--due to association rules--have a fourth. Friski was recently briefly re-homed but struggled a bit with urinating in the house and we were asked to take her back. After having her back for a couple of weeks, she's had only one accident and we're confident in our analysis of the problem: 1} She is housebroken, but may struggle a bit in the beginning of her re-homing process. We find that crating her when we're not home and being vigilant for signs of wanting to go out after a nap or vigorous play are helpful. 2) Friski loves to walk, but has been mostly sedentary for a few years, so struggles with knowing how much water to drink after a lot of exercise. Limiting water after extended exercise helps. Friski sometimes becomes territorial with other dogs; her ire is short-lived and mostly bark, not bite. I don't know about how she would do around cats, so I think it's smart not to test her. Our hope is that someone in or near Eagan will adopt her so Dad can see her every once in a while.
