About Izzy

Izzy was surrendered to our local shelter in February by the husband of a woman who had raised her from a puppy. For 7 years she had been a constant and much loved companion of the wife. She has all the charateristics of a sighthound, strong prey drive, can jump fences, not good with cats and most likely small dogs. She is totally housebroken and was managed for years on rural property with an underground fence that she never challanged. She was raised as an only dog and never socialized with others so is fearful of other dogs but can be walked with them and even raised a puppy brought in by the new husband who prefers lab hunting dogs and did not like Izzy so when she got out of the fenced in yard of their new subdivision home and got into a fight with the two dogs next door, he took her to the next city and turned her into their animal control which is high kill. Izzy is anxious of new surroundings but very willing to learn. She desperately wants to bond with another human after months of grieving for the family she lost. She loves kids, is wary of men and should never be off leash like most sighthounds because she can jump and run very fast. She loves water, loves hiking and going for walks, is calm in the house and crates with no problem. If you love whippets or greyhounds you will love Izzy.
