About Nigel

Adoption Fee: $100
Maltese / Poodle
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Intro We have made the very difficult decision that our 7 year old maltipoo needs a different living situation. He has been a part of our family for five years, and we love him so much that we even moved him to Ireland with us in February when work moved the family overseas. Unfortunately the move really shook him up, and he has had terrible separation anxiety. Our interventions (both medical and training with a certified trainer) have not helped and we have come to the sad conclusion that Nigel needs a home situation that is a better fit for him. Would you be able to help us in finding an appropriate home? About Nigel Breed: Maltese-Poodle-Westie (not totally sure!) Sex: Male Age: 7 years (approximate) Weight: 6 kg/15 lbs Nigel was adopted in 2013 when he was about two. He was found under a bridge in New York City and brought into the city shelter. He was microchipped and his owners were called but they refused to pick him up. Nigel loves to cuddle, be held like a baby, have his belly rubbed, and keep the kitchen floor clean by licking up any food that gets dropped! His favorite foods are cheese, kale, sardines, and pig's ears. Nigel has struggled a lot since joining the family - primarily with separation anxiety. These traits are not uncommon, but they require consistent training and patience to address. Through medication and training, Nigel was able to work through his separation anxiety and remain calm while alone for 6 hours at a time. After five years in New York, Nigel moved with the family to Dublin in early 2018. The journey was tough for him and he significantly regressed in his separation anxiety. The family has been working with a trainer and a veterinarian to assist Nigel in feeling more confident and relaxed while being alone but progress has been slow. Our family will have to move abroad again in early 2019 and we feel it would be detrimental to move Nigel again. We are looking for a person or a family who can provide a more suitable living situation for his needs. NEEDS A family/person with someone who can be home with him most/all of the time. Someone who is willing to work consistently with him on his training so he can be less clingy and more confident alone. WANTS A suburban or rural home Another dog who is very relaxed/low-energy to model calm behavior in times of stress DOESN'T DO WELL WITH Small children Aggressive dogs Inquire About Adoption [email protected] Photos : https://photos.app.goo.gl/2EzicfWYsc2AXzHa9
