About Ranger-PENDING!

German Shepherd / Lab
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

Our beautiful and happy go lucky Ranger couldn't be more loving no matter what. Ranger is a 5 month old, 25 lb German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix (anticipated full-grown weight of approximately 45 lbs) . The Shepherd and Retriever mixes have grown in popularity tremendously over the past few years. It makes perfect sense in that they're known for their great temperaments, loyalty and super- intelligence. Farfel's rescues many Shepherd as well as Retriever mixes that are in need of our help with confidence they will blossom with training and leadership into great family members. Ranger has all these wonderful traits and was described by his New Mexico foster mom as a very sweet and energetic guy who enjoys other dogs (although sometimes they scare him if large very rambunctious) and displays a deep love and loyalty to his people. There were hopes by Ranger's relinquishing family that one day he would be a service dog. They watched him grow into a super-smart, very loving and playful puppy who they thought would be perfect for the job. While their intentions were honorable, their follow through with training didn't occur at all. Without the training experience, it's unrealistic to expect any dog to just naturally have the skills to succeed in a service capacity. Ranger was relinquished to our rescuer because he's a very normal, energetic puppy that requires guidance and training...the family just wasn't up for the task. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to match Ranger to a home that doesn't commit to training classes. We feel that he has so much to give to a family that understands his nature. Ranger will be a gem (with his great temperament and desire to please) to a home that understands his natural gifts of the ultimate in love and loyalty to his family. Ranger will blossom with positive reinforcement (force free) training into an extremely loyal and loving.. and well-behaved best-friend. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement/ force-free trainers in your area. We've received the following information from Ranger's New Mexico foster mom: Ranger is a super-cute Shepherd/Lab mix..of course just a guess as dogs are such a combo of many wonderful things :-) He's just naturally sweet with people..as a matter of fact, they're his passion! I don't mean to say he doesn't enjoy other dogs, he definitely does but is intimidated by larger rambunctious canines. He does really well with my medium sized Lab and loves to play in the yard and have fun. But in the end, it's his people that are the love of his life. It's Ranger's joyful attitude, loyalty and love of his people that makes this dog very special. He will be the most loyal and loving family companion...but it is with training that these special qualities will be channelled in a positive direction. His bonding will know no end with his person in training class. With guidance and leadership, this dog will absolutely shine! I feel like Ranger has the physical resemblance to a Shepherd and Lab..and has the loyalty and deep love that exists between a Shepherd and it's family. It's that element that makes a well-trained German Shepherd mix a gift among dogs! Ranger desires to be a full-time best friend and loves to come along..be it to a park, on a beautiful Colorado trail or just brushing up on his socialization skills%BD'%BD|Ranger would love to be there as Companion #1. He has such a loving and sweet personality and is learning important lessons everyday about appropriate behavior. Ranger wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone%BD'%BD|he is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. An active retiree or a person who works either part-time or from home would be great. Ranger would love the friendship, companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being a pup, he'd also learn that he's loved, cared for and respected. This is a lesson that results in a joyful, bonded and confident adult dog. Ranger will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy pups. Farfel's has requested that Ranger be neutered prior to his transport to Colorado. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for his neuter and microchip if one of our Colorado rescue vets is used. Ranger will be arriving on transport in Denver sometime in August...we'll update the exact date when information is finalized. Applications are currently being accepted for this loving and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ranger, be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
