The very first thing that Wiley the Wheaten/Cairn Terrier mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the striking golden colors that run through his soft as cotton coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Wiley's coat will not only be silky soft..but shining with good health. Everything is new to Wiley...he sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Wiley is on your lap or cuddling close on the bed as he sleeps through the night next to his favorite family members. Wiley is so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Wiley came from a very tough and challenging shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Wiley may be initially a bit shy. While animal control officers are usually kind and considerate of the dogs, sometimes that just isn't the case. This little guy experienced officers who had obviously had a long and overwhelming day. They were very abusive to Wiley and consequently this little guy is initially wary of some men. Wiley will require either a female household or one with a male that is understanding and patient. In this pressure-free environment that understands that Wiley will participate when ready, we have no doubt that before too long, Wiley will be in his dog-loving dad's welcome lap. Once he's assured that all is well, he becomes the most loving guy ever! Wiley is a calm and very sweet dog that wants nothing more than kindness and love...he returns these loving sentiments to his family a thousand times over. This 18 month old, 20 lb guy truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Wiley is a very kind and loving people dog. He's gentle, calm and a very loving and devoted best friend. We envision Wiley with an active retired couple or individual or a family with older kids who want a very handsome and loving dog as a family member and best companion. Wiley would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Terrier mix, Wiley loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please, that he would excel. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement (force free) trainers in your area. Wiley would be overjoyed to walk along gorgeous Colorado trails and paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Wiley's basic nature is to be positive and very joyful.. he's therefore so much fun to be with. We've requested that Wiley be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too few vets in this industrial area of New Mexico. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Wiley's neuter and microchip if one of our rescue vets is used. Wiley will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 8/11/18.
