About Bruiser

Adoption Fee: $250
Chihuahua mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Bruiser is a 6-year-old, 7-lb, male Chihuahua Mix. Bruiser is a true Romeo at heart. His number one focus is on his person/people and he'd love nothing more than to keep your lap company all day. He is obedient, smart and learns quickly. Bruiser loves to go on walks and is fabulous on the leash - I take him with my rambunctious rat terrier cross, who has had obedience training, and Bruiser is much calmer! He will roam around my fenced-in yard a bit, but his number one favorite place is with his human, so a smaller yard or townhouse/apartment would be fine as long as he gets plenty of potty breaks and/or walks. He is great in the car. I've had him in a doggy seat and a large cat carrier on two-hour rides, and he falls asleep immediately. Bruiser is living with two other small dogs and two cats. He has a dominant personality and he doesn't really like to play much. He respects my older Chihuahua, who is also dominant, but he and my younger pup can get jealous of each other, especially when it comes to my lap. I call Bruiser the Lap General - he rules the lap and will let any other dog know that. He acts more aggressive towards larger dogs so I've not let him get close. He would do best as an only dog, but could be with a mellow small dog that doesn't mind if Bruiser rules the lap - that would be on a case-by-case basis. No larger dogs. He is not food aggressive at all. Bruiser ignores the cats totally in the house. He has on occasion tried to chase them when they are outside, and he's done well with my corrections of that. As with almost all Chihuahuas, he has that 'guard the home and people' mentality. Bruiser sleeps all night in his kennel and goes in willingly at bed time or when I leave for work. Sometimes he'll just wander in on his own to hang out, no problems. I've had him at a festival with kids and adults coming up to pet him, and he did fine. He's a love sponge, so I think he'd be fine with older children that just want to adore him and don't expect a dog that will play. Bruiser was neutered just a few weeks ago, so he still has that 'marking' mentality, but he's improved a lot with house training in just three weeks and I don't use a belly band in the house on him anymore. Bruiser deserves a great home that will cherish him and he'll return that love ten times over!
