About Scooter

Meet Scooter, a sweet 10-lb. Rat Terrier with a keen nose typical of a scent hound and a spunky zest for life typical of...well, a Rat Terrier! If you're unfamiliar with the legendary lifespan of the Rat Terrier, Scooter's age of 10 is about the equivalent of a human's at 55. (Think Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt.) Scooter's enthusiasm for the moment at hand will be infectious as you wake up and he greets you with a wagging tail, eager to start his day. He loves his morning walks and his general awesomeness as a walking companion will have you looking forward to them too. He'll wait patiently as you clip on his leash, and he won't walk too fast because he'll have that nose to the ground, investigating every scent he encounters. Was that dripped ice cream? A former raindrop? The trail of a squirrel? You may never know, but Scooter will diligently work the case! If he meets other dogs on his walks, he happily acknowledges them and never growls or barks at them. When he meets people, he's equally pleased after he has had a chance to sniff them out. (Several people approaching him at once can make him a bit anxious, however.) Back home, Scooter loves to snuggle and be petted. He is content to sit next to you or on your lap; he just wants to be with you, keeping you company. If you need to go to a different room, he'll trot behind, curious to see where he will settle down next. Scooter loves his 13- and 15-year-old human foster siblings, but he has not been around younger children. He also gets along great with his canine foster sibling, but an unfamiliar dog visiting in his home can make him anxious. Once he has had a chance to sniff around and see that the other dog isn't threatening, he settles down. Scooter is fully house-trained. He's not familiar with a crate but has never shown any need to be crated.
