About Jezebel

Irish Wolfhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

We adopted sweet Jezebel from a teacher at the elementary school close by. My husband was walking our Wolfe, Quinn, and our white German Shepherd, Sugar. She asked him if we would be interested in rescuing a female Wolfe who has come from a neglect situation. So we talked about it, and even though we are retired, I couldn't bear thinking of a Wolfe being abused. So about 30days later, we welcomed a skeletal, timid female, Jezebel. We heard around that she was one of the last pups from a breeder who closed her business and moved back up north. Poor Jezebel, she was literally skin and bones, with fur on top. She was confined indoors, because the other family dog did not like her, and my guess was that she had to compete for food and attention. So we brought her to our Vet who gave her a thorough exam, told us to get her chipped, which we did, caught her up on vaccines, and took her home to fatten up, and lavish with lots of love and attention. Jezie just wanted to kiss us to pieces the first week. She slowly started to relax and was surprised to see that there was always to elevated bowls full of a blend of puppy chow and high protein adult food. And a giant bowl of fresh water at all times. She loved her new doggie siblings and especially loved, going out to romp in our big fenced in back yard! We learned that as a young pup she was put in a fenced pen and left outside 24hrs a day, rain or shine, and the only time she had human contact was when they fed her. As an RN, I'm guessing she was so depressed that even if she had enough food, she was emotionally starved for attention and love, which might have caused her to lose, her appetite. So we gave her lots of doggie treats, food, fresh water, and exercise and love, and she flourished! One of her fave things is to lie out on the front porch and watch all of the kids and cars,go by. But if she doesn't like the look of them, she is the first to bark and possibly growl f she doesn't know them. Our Vet said that this was simply her way of loving and protecting us! Now she is happy, healthy, and ready for her forever home. She must have good sized fenced yard, but needs a/c living in the south. Incidentally she doesn't tolerate canned dog food, she loves,it, but she vomits it back up within 5-10min. Vet said her tummy is delicate so we shouldn't push her. We recently found Gentle Giants adult dog food, so she now is on a half Purina Puppy Chow and half Gentle Giant chow. She tolerates it well, and she loves Milk Bone brand gravy flavored dog treats! She always sleeps indoors at night, likes,to sleep near the door of the bedroom where we sleep. Jezebel does have one unique talent, she 'sings'. Or I guess the best description is yodels, when she hears a fire truck or police car, she sings. I do think she did it much more in the first few months we had her, if you sing loud she might join in! My big male, Quinn, doesn't sing, and at first he didn't know what to make of it, but as her anxiety lessens, her singing is less. A dear friend of mine, who owned several Irish wolfhounds, said that her hubby, used to egg their singing on! She is a very sweet girl, and we,wish we could keep her, but two wolfies and a German Shepherd is a lot of dogs in a small home. Depending on where her new family lives, we will supply a copy of her vet records and chip transfer information at the time of adoption. We are asking for an adoption fee of $200.00 cash to defray some of her past vet bills. I believe she is probably a pure bred, but couldn't pursue her AKC cert because the breeder closed her business and did not leave any forwarding info.
