About Bernard (B-Boy)

American Bulldog / Anatolian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Bernard (B Boy) is a sweet, large boy- topping out at 80 lbs of muscle. He was originally adopted from the Dumb Friends League in Denver, CO 3 1/2 years ago at 6 months old. Bernard defiantly has a zest for life, this guy loves to get into anything that looks interesting. He is inquisitive and always up for an adventure. We believe Bernard to be an American Bulldog Anatolian Shepard mix, but I always describe him as just a 'mutt'. Bernard would do best with large, open spaces. He needs to exert a lot of energy in the day and another big dog to wrestle with would be best. He loves to play with big dogs, so a sibling is ideal. He has always been with another dog in our home. I wouldn't suggest a home with small children or cats as he has never been exposed to either. Bernard often has his head in the clouds and loves to bird watch, chasing ducks into the lake is a favorite pass time. He absolutely loves to swim and would be happy to just be outside all day. Currently he sleeps inside at night, he prefers under the bed to snuggle up or just a squishy dog bed in the corner. This guy adores playing in the snow and can be entertained by just a huge stick he can tug on in the woods. Sticks are his all time favorite 'toy'. Although Bernard is a very sweet boy he does have a few behavioral issues that must be considered. Bernard has some issues with being leash reactive, as well as some car anxiety. He has a tendency to get into unwatched trash cans and loves to chew. Just keeping a watchful eye on him while he is inside is best. He is kennel trained and has been potty trained since before we adopted him 3.5 years ago. Bernard knows how to sit, shake, lay down and is working on 'stay'. He responds well to treat training and is quite smart, despite is dopy demeanor. Due to extenuating circumstances we cannot keep our sweet friend, but I am determined to find him the VERY best home and fit for him. I am open to multiple trials before he is adopted and if anything doesn't work out with his new home I will always take him back. I love him dearly, and this situation breaks me heart.
